Alpha Design, a defence equipment manufacturer acquired by the Adani Group in 2018, has reportedly played a key role in Operation Sindoor, with its Sky Strikers being used in the strikes, according to news reports.

The Sky Striker is a fully autonomous loitering munition (LM), capable of locating, acquiring, and striking operator-designated targets with a 5 or 10 kg warhead embedded inside its fuselage, according to Elbit Systems’ official website.

In 2021, under emergency procurement powers, the Indian Army signed a contract for over 100 explosive-laden drones to be manufactured in Bengaluru. These drones can act as force multipliers in missions similar to Balakot, and has a range of about 100 km. The Sky Strikers are jointly manufactured by Bengaluru-based Alpha Design and Israel-based Elbit Security Systems. Alpha Design was later acquired by Adani Defence Systems and Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises.

Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), aimed to dismantle the infrastructure of terror groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The operation was launched to avenge the April 22 massacre of 26 tourists in Pahalgam.

The strikes, conducted in the early hours May 7, were executed by the Indian Air Force in coordination with the Indian Army. Unlike previous counter-strikes such as those following Uri and the CRPF convoy attack in Pulwama, this operation did not involve crossing into Pakistani airspace. Army sources clarified that missiles were fired solely by IAF jets.

Alpha Design and the Adani group are yet to respond to businessline’s querieson the matter.
