HUL shares surge nearly 5% following CEO transition announcement

Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) shares jumped 4.68 per cent to ₹2,521.20 on the National Stock Exchange as of 11.31 AM on Friday, following the company’s announcement of a leadership transition at the top. The stock opened at ₹2,500 and touched an intraday high of ₹2,529.90, significantly outperforming the broader market sentiment.

The consumer goods giant announced that Priya Nair, currently President of Beauty & Wellbeing at Unilever, will take over as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director effective August 1, 2025. She succeeds Rohit Jawa, who will step down on July 31 to pursue his next career chapter after a two-year tenure.

Nair brings nearly 30 years of experience with Unilever, having previously served as Executive Director for Home Care and Beauty & Personal Care divisions at HUL. She currently oversees a €13 billion global portfolio spanning hair care, skin care, and wellness brands across more than 20 markets.

During Jawa’s leadership since 2023, HUL delivered volume-led competitive growth despite challenging market conditions. He introduced the ‘ASPIRE’ strategy aimed at transforming the company’s portfolio toward high-growth segments.

Trading volumes remained robust with 38.99 lakh shares changing hands, generating a turnover of ₹977.98 crore. The appointment requires shareholder approval and other statutory clearances. Market analysts view the leadership transition positively, citing Nair’s deep understanding of Indian consumer markets and proven track record in driving business transformation.
