Adani Solar has emerged as the top supplier for PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), providing 54 percent of the solar modules needed for solar rooftop installations across the country, official sources said.
Since the inception of the scheme in February 2024, Adani Solar has supplied 1.78 GW (Gigawatt) of domestically produced content requirement (DCR) solar modules through its retail network of 35 exclusive channel partners- the largest retail footprint in India, sources in the company told businessline. This has resulted in solar rooftop installations across 5.94 lakh homes in FY25 by Adani Solar alone, supporting India’s solar energy targets of 280 GW by 2030, it added.
With MNRE targeting to solarise 30 lakh households in FY 26, Adani Solar said it is expecting to supply 50 percent of the total 9 GW of DCR solar modules needed for solar rooftops in the country. The company indigenously manufactures solar modules, cells, ingots and wafers along with solar ancillaries like solar glass, EVA backsheet etc at Mundra in Gujarat.
The PMSG: MBY scheme offers subsidies to households installing rooftop solar systems which range from ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and ₹78,000 for 3 kW of solar installations. Aiming to bring 10 million households by March 2027, the scheme has so far seen the highest contributions from Adani Solar 1.78 GW, followed by Waaree Energies with 0.59 GW, Premier with 0.50 GW, Vikram Solar 0.33 GW others accounting for 0.10 GW in FY25.
Historic milestone
According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), PMSG: MBY achieved a historic milestone with 10 lakh homes solar-powered as of March 10, 2025. Within a year of its launch, the scheme has already disbursed ₹5,437.20 crore as Central Financial Assistance to 6.98 lakh beneficiaries.Â
Among States, the highest adoption rate for the PMSG: MBY is in Gujarat and Maharashtra, with over four lakh households in Gujarat and two lakh in Maharashtra installing rooftop solar systems under the scheme. Other States, including Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh, are also witnessing gradual growth, with some regions offering additional incentives to boost adoption.
In the recent budget session of the Parliament, the government stated that PMSG: MBY has a substantial impact on the reduction of electricity bills of the residential consumers. It estimated that around 45 percent of residential consumers are receiving zero electricity bills on installation of rooftop solar plants under the scheme.
