Babul Supriyo addressing a stakeholders meet on IT and ITes sector in West Bengal
Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub, a futuristic tech hub in Kolkata, is likely to witness three companies– NTT, ST Telemedia and CtrlS Datacenters–starting their operations soon.
Altogether 41 companies have been allotted plots in the 250-acre tech hub in Kolkata’s New Town.
The Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal Government believes the tech hub would attract ₹30,000-35,000 crore investment, creating about one lakh direct and indirect employment.
“In Bengal Silicon Valley, 41 companies have taken plots. Of that for 23 companies, construction is in different stages now. And for five companies construction is nearing completion. Three companies will start their operations soon,” Babul Supriyo, West Bengal Information Technology & Electronics Minister, said on Friday.
Supriyo was talking to the media after a stakeholders meet on IT and ITeS sector in the State.
Allotted lands
At the tech hub, companies got allotted lands at subsidised rates. Top companies such as Reliance Industries (RIL), Adani Enterprises and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) have got possession of plots.
“We are constantly in touch with the companies to expedite the construction work for the companies in the Silicon Valley. We are expecting that the tech hub would attract around ₹30,000-35,000 crore investment,” Supriyo added.
The process of granting permissive possessions of plots to the eligible companies at the hub has been looked after by the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO).
