Bengaluru’s Oben Electric eyes Asia, LatAm, and West Asia markets for its international expansion
Bengaluru-based EV start-up Oben Electric expects to scale its presence to international markets by CY26. The company aims to locate emerging markets in Asia, Latin America and West Asia with similar demand and usage patterns.
“We plan to expand beyond the domestic market. We aim to ensure that through our principle of vertical integration and in-house design, we offer superior quality and service for customers worldwide,” said Madhumita Agrawal, Founder and CEO, Oben Electric.
Founded in 2020, Oben Electric is a homegrown electric motorcycle manufacturer that specialises in the 125cc and 150cc premium commuter segment. The company sells under the brand name “Rorr” and produces two models — The Rorr and the Rorr Ez.
“Unlike scooters, where the Indian form factor doesn’t find much traction outside China, motorcycles have a more universal design,” Agrawal said. “What works in India can work in these emerging markets too, making global expansion a natural next step for us.”
Raising funds
Oben has already raised ₹50 crore in funding earlier this year and is eyeing a second round of funding in the coming months. The automaker has a manufacturing capacity of one lakh units per annum and aims to scale this by 200 per cent within two years.
A key part of this scaling strategy is using special lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries that are more sustainable, heat-resistant and affordable. “As opposed to the nickel cobalt batteries that are the industry standard, our LFP batteries provide customers with a longer lifespan and are 20 per cent cheaper” said Dinkar Agrawal, Co-Founder and COO.
