Coal India to list subsidiaries BCCL and CMPDI “soon”

Coal India is on course to begin the process of listing two of its subsidiaries – Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) and Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI ). Draft papers would be filed “soon”, Debasish Nanda, Director – Business Development, Coal India, said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of CII Mining and Construction Equipment Summit, he said, “We are going to file DRHP (Draft Red Herring Prospectus) soon. We are working on that.”.

According to Nanda, appointment of Book Running Lead Manager (BRLM) for the IPO has already been carried out.

The two subsidiaries were on the listing radar for sometime now, but the timing of it would be dependent on favourable market conditions.

Currently, Coal India has seven coal-producing subsidiaries and one technical and consultancy company. The company accounts for over 80 per cent of the domestic coal production.

Other projects

According to Nanda, Coal India is looking to secure critical minerals blocks, both in India and abroad. Target markets include Australia, South America and Africa.

The company, he said, was also working on three coal gasification projects, which are in different stages and also on pithead power plants. In case of one of the pithead power plants – in Odisha, at an estimated cost of ₹16,000 crore for 1,600 MW, land acquisition was “in process”. A similar project with DVC is being looked at, too, and the coal miner is looking to sign a “50:50 JV”soon.

The capex target for Coal India has been pegged at ₹17,000 crore this fiscal.
