Hero MotoCorp on Friday reported a year-on-year (y-o-y) decline of 44 per cent in its April domestic wholesales (dispatches to dealers) to 2,88,524 units as against 5,13,296 units in April 2024.

The company, which is also India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, said the drop was due to a temporary production halt from April 17–19 at its Dharuhera, Gurugram, Haridwar, and Neemrana facilities. The shutdown was an operational strategy, per the company, to facilitate supply chain alignment and conduct scheduled maintenance and infrastructure enhancements.

Hero MotoCorp said normalisation is anticipated in the current month, and highlighted that its retail sales, as per Vahan data, recorded 5.05 lakh registrations for its internal combustion engine (ICE) two-wheelers in April 2025.

“The company has maintained a consistent month-on-month (m-o-m) increase in retail market share throughout 2025,” it said adding that Vida, the company’s electric mobility brand, sustained its strong growth momentum in April, with dispatches of 7,116 units of the Vida V2 electric scooter.

Declining trend, winners

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), the second-largest two-wheeler manufacturer, also reported a y-o-y decline of 12 per cent in its dispatches to 4,22,931 units during the month as against 4,81,046 units in the corresponding month last fiscal.

Similarly, ‘Pulsar’-maker Bajaj Auto reported a 13 per cent decline in domestic sales on-year to 1,88,615 units as against 2,16,950 units recorded in the corresponding month last year.

Tamil Nadu-based TVS Motor, however, reported a growth of seven per cent in its domestic sales on-year to 3,23,647 units in April as compared with 3,01,449 units in April 2024.

The positive sales has also lifted the company to the second spot in the Indian two-wheelers market in April, after HMSI, which took the pole position, pushing Hero MotoCorp to the third position domestic wholesales.

Meanwhile, Suzuki’s Indian subsidiary, Suzuki Motorcycle India, reported a growth of eight per cent on-year to 95,214 units in April as compared with 88,067 units in the same month in 2024.

Royal Enfield grew by one per cent on-year in the domestic sales to 76,002 units during the month as compared with 75,038 units in the corresponding month last year.
