India among key performers for Marriott International in 2024

India, Indonesia and Japan accounted for 72 per cent of new signings in the Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC) in 2024, hotel chain Marriott International said on Friday.

Overall, Marriott signed 109 deals across eleven markets adding over 21,000 rooms in the pipeline. Growth was led by the chain’s luxury portfolio and it accounted for 19 per cent of signed deals in 2024. This included the debut of EDITION in Mumbai and Ritz-Carlton in Jaipur and Udaipur among others. The Mumbai property is expected to open in 2028.

The chain’s total pipeline in the region has grown 12 per cent to over 77,000 rooms in 363 hotels.

“2024 was a record-breaking year for Marriott International in APEC region, with exceptional growth driven by key development milestones, market expansions and the introduction of new brands in sought-after destinations,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific, excluding China, Marriott International. “As we continue to meet the evolving needs of modern travellers, APEC remains a pivotal region in our company’s growth strategy, reinforcing our position as a leader in the global hospitality industry,” he said.

The hotel chain operates 635 properties across 25 brands in 22 countries in the region. In India it opened its 150th property – Katra Marriott Resort & Spa in 2024.

“By enhancing our offerings and entering new markets we’re not only aiming to deliver greater value to owners, franchisees and developers but also adapting to the evolving needs of today’s travellers – across all stay purposes and experiences,” said Shawn Hill, chief development officer, Asia Pacific (excluding China), Marriott International.
