The statement issued by the U.S. Department of State quoting Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, “Secretary Rubio emphasized that both sides need to identify methods to de-escalate and re-establish direct communication to avoid miscalculation.”

“He further proposed U.S. support in facilitating productive discussions to avert future disputes.” the statement added.

India’s approach has always been measured and responsible, and remains so, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said after talking to Mr. Rubio.

“Had a conversation with US @SecRubio this morning. India’s approach has always been measured and responsible and remains so,” Mr. Jaishankar said in a social media post.

Earlier, Spokesperson Tammy Bruce confirmed that Mr. Rubio also spoke with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. “Secretary Rubio reiterated that both parties must find ways to de-escalate the current situation and re-establish direct communication to avoid miscalculation.”

The remarks came amid intensified military action between India and Pakistan following India’s strike on nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir(PoK) under ‘Operation Sindoor’ early Wednesday in a retaliation to the Pahalgam massacre on April 22. Twenty-six people, mostly tourists, were killed in the carnage.
