Jabil announces setting up of ₹1000 crore Silicon Photonics manufacturing facility in Gujarat

Jabil Inc, a global leader in engineering and supply chain and manufacturing solutions on Wednesday announced that it will open a ₹1000 crore Silicon Photonics manufacturing facility in Gujarat.

The unit will focus on the production of photonics transceivers (Data Communication Devices) that are used in Al, telecom, IoT, and smart infrastructure.

In the short term, both the company and the state will explore the option of building a post-wafer fabrication silicon photonics facility that will incorporate advanced co-packaged optics capabilities.

This investment will create approximately 1500 new jobs. An MoU in this regard was signed during the Gujarar Semiconnect summit held at Gandhinagar, Wednesday.

Matt Crowley, Executive Vice President, Global Business Unit of Jabil said, “This MoU underscores our commitment to support the nation’s aspirations in growing the silicon photonic capabilities by contributing to the overall development of the photonics ecosystem in India. We are proudly part of this journey and we look forward to working closely with the Gujarat government and other stakeholders to realise the full potential of semiconductors in photonics in India.”

Jabil has been active in the photonics sector for over a decade and has years of experience in designing photonics devices and systems, developing amplifiers, transceivers and laser packages as well as developing optical networking products such as ROADMs and optical switches.

Jabil provides both prototyping and large-scale manufacturing services — reducing time to market for photonics solutions in telecommunications , data communications and Artificial Intelligence applications.
