M&M to open bookings of electric SUVs on Valentine’s Day

Mahindra & Mahindra will open the bookings for all nine variants of its newly-launched electric SUVs, BE 6 and XEV 9e, on February 14 at 9 am.

The automaker intends to start deliveries of the pack — three (59 kWh) variants of the electric SUVs in March and all other packs between June and August this year. The BE 6 has a starting price of ₹18.90 lakh and XEV 9e starting at ₹21.90 lakh.

The ‘Thar’ and ‘Scorpio’ maker had launched its electric SUVs range last November and it said there was “overwhelming response” by customers who wanted to possess these “world beaters” at multiple price points.

Phased production ramp-up

The company will initially manufacture 5,000 units of BE6 and XEV 9e per month in its Chakan plant. However, a phased production ramp-up will be implemented based on the demand for the variants. The BE 6 comes in eight colour shades and the XEV 9e in seven. Customers can choose their model and variant from February 6 on the official website.

The BE6 and XEV 9e come with 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery backs that have undergone rigorous testing for over 55 lakh km. The Born EVs can be charged between 20 per cent and 80 per cent in 20 minutes.

M&M has allocated ₹4,500-crore investment out of the total ₹16,000-crore investment in the F22-F27 cycle including powertrain development, two product top-hats including software and technology, and manufacturing capacity.
