NextGen signs MoU for ₹10,000-cr semiconductor fab & opto unit in Gujarat
NextGen has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Gujarat government for setting up a ₹10,000-crore compound semiconductor fab and opto electronics facility at Dholera.
This facility will be set up with the technical collaboration from semiconductor players from Japan and Taiwan, Gujarat government officials said on Wednesday. “Hitachi and Solidlite – the technology partners of NextGen are from Japan and Taiwan. While Hitachi is from Japan, Solidlite is one of the two partners from Taiwan,” Mona Khandhar, Principal Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, said on the sidelines of the Gujarat SemiConnect event held at Gandhinagar, Wednesday.
Among the large semiconductor players, four projects, promising an investment worth ₹1.24 lakh crore have already been announced for the State. Among them are Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) and Taiwan’s PSMC, who will jointly set up India’s first commercial Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled semiconductor fabrication facility, with an investment of over ₹91,000 crore.
