OBD II-B in two-wheelers from today with minimal price hike: Companies

The on-board diagnostic-II B system (OBD II-B) emission norms, which kick in from April 1 for two-wheelers, would not have much impact on the sales as the minor changes have not escalated prices.

Two-wheeler companies have already transitioned their scooters and motorcycles as per OBD II-B norms and the hike in the prices may range between ₹800 and ₹3,000.

For instance, companies including Hero MotoCorp, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) and TVS Motor have completely transitioned to OBD-II B norms till mid of March this year.

HMSI had launched its OBD-IIB compliant Shine 100 priced at ₹68,767 (ex-showroom, Delhi) on March 17 and TVS Motor also started dispatching its range of OBD-IIB compliant vehicles starting with the TVS Jupiter 110 priced ₹76,691(ex-showroom, New Delhi) for the base variant.

On track

In a call with analysts in February, Hero MotoCorp had said that the company was right on track and will be converting its entire folio well before the deadline is there.

“As far as the price is concerned, there’s going to be a marginal price increase of 1-2 per cent because of the additional hardware that would be installed in the products and that would be valid across the industry. It’s basically lower because it’s already in fuel injection system,” Vikram Kasbekar, its Executive Director (Operations), said.
