Reliance Power unit wins 350-MW solar-battery project from SJVN

Shares of Reliance Power Limited were trading at ₹53.79 up by ₹1.57 or 3.01 per cent on the NSE at noon. Reliance NU Energies Private Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Power Limited, recently received a Letter of Award from SJVN Limited for a 350-MW solar power project integrated with a 175-MW/700 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project will be connected to the inter-state transmission system.

The subsidiary secured the project through competitive bidding at a fixed tariff of ₹3.33 per kWh for 25 years. SJVN, a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise, awarded this contract as part of a larger 1,200 MW solar and 600 MW/2,400 MWh BESS tender that saw participation from 19 developers.

The project will require installation of 600 MW solar DC capacity alongside the battery storage system. Once commissioned, this addition will bring Reliance Power’s total clean energy portfolio to 2.4 GW of solar DC capacity and over 2.5 GWh of BESS capacity, positioning it as India’s largest player in the integrated solar-plus-battery segment.

The tender was oversubscribed by more than four times, with 18 developers qualifying for the final e-reverse auction, indicating strong industry interest in dispatchable renewable energy solutions.

Reliance Power operates a 5,305-MW portfolio, including the 3,960-MW Sasan Power Limited plant. The company has been expanding its renewable energy footprint as part of its strategic transition towards cleaner energy sources.
