Swiss technology for Avaada’s green ammonia plant in Odisha 


The Avaada Group, which is into renewable energy and green hydrogen, has tied up with Casale, a global pioneer in ammonia technology, to develop a 1,500 tons per day (TPD) state-of-the-art green ammonia plant in Gopalpur, Odisha.  

“The Gopalpur plant will be powered entirely by renewable energy, utilising Casale’s advanced ammonia production technology to ensure a carbon-free process,” says a press release.  

Switzerland-based Casale will provide the Green Ammonia Process License, Basic Engineering Package, Proprietary Equipment, and Detailed Engineering review, the release says. 

With this, Casale has licensed total green ammonia capacity of 5,700 tons per day in India, Federico Zardi, CEO of Casale, said in the press release. 

MoU signed

This announcement comes on the heels of another announcement made by Avaada on Wednesday, which was of a MoU signed with the State government of Odisha. Avaada said that it would spend ₹20,700 crore for developing 1500 MW of floating solar projects, two pumped hydro storage plants of 1000 MW and green energy equipment manufacturing units. 

Avaada has set itself a target of 11 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2026. In 2023, the received $1 billion funding from Brookfield’s Energy Transition Fund and $ 300 m from GPSC, a subsidiary of PTT group of Thailand.
