Ride-hailing platform Uber on Monday launched metro ticketing on its platform through integration with Open Network for Digital Commerce. It will also be launching white label B2B logistics services offering businesses on-demand logistics services without the need to maintain their own fleet, it added.
The platform has initially launched metro ticketing in the capital in collaboration with Delhi Metro and will soon expand it to three more cities this year, Prabjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia told media.
“This integration follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2024 during Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi’s visit to India, where Uber committed to collaborating with ONDC to advance the reach and impact of India’s digital public goods,” the company stated.
Singh said that this is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its multimodal offering across two-wheelers, autos, cars, and buses, making it easier for riders to plan and complete their entire journey seamlessly within a single app. He added that this will enable Uber to not only fulfil the needs of existing customers but also aid in bringing in new customers to the Uber network. “ This integration makes us one step closer to becoming a one-stop shop for all mobility needs. We are starting off with metro ticketing and building on this momentum, we will also launch B2B logistics services. I think in the future, we may continue this collaboration with the launch of other services. We have a large base of customers and riders, and they will benefit from our participation in ONDC,” he added.
On plans for B2B logistics through ONDC, the company said this will also serve as an incremental earning opportunity forUber’s 1.4-million-strong driver network. The service will initially facilitate food deliveries, with its underlying technology designed to scale to sectors such as e-commerce, grocery, pharmacy, and healthcare logistics.
“We are seeing more riders join the platform than ever before and more earners than ever before. We’ll continue to have different versions of economic models in the market, and we’ll continue to innovate on that,” Singh added.
In a statement, Vibhor Jain, Acting CEO and COO at ONDC, said, “Uber’s joining of the ONDC Network marks a significant step in expanding access to trusted, interoperable digital infrastructure in India. As a global platform, Uber’s initial enablement of metro ticketing and logistics unlocks new possibilities – from seamless multimodal journeys to unifying a fragmented logistics ecosystem.
