West Bengal receives investment proposals worth over ₹4.40 lakh crore during Bengal Global Business Summit

West Bengal has received investment proposals worth over ₹4.40 lakh crore during the eighth edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday.

“We have received investment proposals worth ₹4,40,595 crore in BGBS 2025,” Banerjee said during the valedictory session of the two-day flagship industry event.

She informed that a total of 212 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and letters of intent were signed across various sectors during this year’s Bengal Global Business Summit, which started on Wednesday.

“So many big projects are coming up. Among these projects, one of the important projects is the oil exploration project at Ashoknagar. We have given 15 acres of land at ₹1 to ONGC there. They have successfully discovered oil and gas, which will be exploited commercially. We are supporting the ONGC initiative. We will also be giving a petroleum mining lease. This will bring Bengal in the petroleum map of India,” the Chief Minister said.

During the first day of the event on Wednesday, Reliance Industries Chairman & Managing Director Mukesh Ambani announced that his diversified group was planning to invest an additional ₹50,000 crore in the State by 2030.

“In 2016, when I first attended this summit, Reliance’s investments stood below ₹2,000 crore. Today, in less than a decade, our investments in Bengal have increased 20 times, and we are invested over ₹50,000 crore,” Ambani said, adding that his group will double this investment by the end of this decade.

Ambani said Reliance will be investing in digital infrastructure and services, data centres, retail networks, and solar energy, among others, in Bengal.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the first day of the event, Sajjan Jindal, Chairman of JSW Group, said his group was planning to invest ₹16,000 crore for setting up a 1,600 MW power plant, comprising two units of 800 MW each, in the State.

The West Bengal government said it had received over ₹19.51 lakh crore worth of investment proposals in the last seven editions of the Bengal Global Business Summit, and out of that projects worth over ₹12 lakh crore have already taken off.

At the BGBS, Amazon India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Textile, Government of West Bengal, on Thursday to boost exports and entrepreneurs from the State.

As part of the MoU, Amazon will train and onboard MSMEs from the State on its Global Selling program and help them export their unique Made in India products to customers in over 200 countries and territories across the world.
