Wyndham Hotels has strengthened its business development team and set up a new office in India as it looks to grow its room inventory in the country by 10-15 per cent on a year-on-year basis.
The US-headquartered chain which specialises in the midscale segment has doubled its India portfolio in seven years with 67 hotels across various brands in the country. Last year it added eleven hotels increasing the India room count to 6,000. In 2025, it plans to open 20 hotels across Ramada and Wyndham brands and add another 2,000 rooms in India
“On an organic basis we will grow rooms 10-15 per cent on a year-on-year,” Wyndham Hotels & Resorts President (EMEA region) Dimitris Manikis said on Tuesday.
“We now have five executives in business development team in India and it is the largest for us in EMEA region,” added Rahool Macarius, company’s Managing Director for Eurasia region.
Manikis sees an enormous room for growth in India with strong domestic demand and steady talent pipeline supporting its development pipeline.
“Democratisation of travel has always been part of our DNA and we are replicating that in India,” Manikis remarked as the chain scouts for growth in industrial towns and temple destinations. An another focus area is to build premium economy hotels along the highways.
Last year Wyndham signed a partnership with Nile Hospitality LLP to launch its budget hotel brand Microtel in the country. As a part of partnership it plans to have 40 Microtel hotels by 2031 and open one property in 2025..
