Accel founding partner Prashanth Prakash receives Padma Shri
Prashanth Prakash, founding partner of a US-based venture capital firm has received the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, for his contributions to trade and industry. His notable investments include BlueStone, BookMyShow, CleverTap, FabHotels, and RentoMojo.
Prakash, an alumnus of Bangalore University, went on to complete his Master’s in Computer Science from the University of Delaware, USA, after finishing his BE in Computer Science. He founded the animation company Visual Reality in 1995 and co-founded the IT services company NetKraft in 1997. Later, he co-founded the seed-stage fund Erasmic Venture in 2004.
Acknowledging the honour, Prashanth Prakash, Founding Partner, Accel India, shared, “I am honoured to have been awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. This award recognises the critical role that start-ups and the technology sector have played in our nation-building. With all humility, I accept this award on behalf of Accel India, my partners, colleagues, and everyone else who has worked tirelessly to nurture and strengthen India’s start-up ecosystem.”
Prakash was one of the nine persons from Karnataka to receive the Padma awards, which included L. Subramanian (Violinist), Anant Nag (Actor), Bheemavva Doddabalappa Shillekyatara (Puppetry), Hassan Raghu (Cinema), Ricky Kej (Music), Venkappa Ambaji Sugatekar (folk art), Vijayalaskhmi Deshamane (Medicine), and A. Surya Prakash (Journalist).
