Vodafone Idea expands 5G footprint to Chandigarh and Patna

Vodafone Idea (Vi) launched its 5G services in Chandigarh and Patna today, continuing the telecom provider’s phased rollout of next-generation connectivity across India. The expansion follows Vi’s successful 5G debut in Mumbai last month, where the company reports over 70 per cent adoption among eligible users.

The shares of Vodafone Idea Limited were trading at ₹7.42 down by ₹0.05 or 0.67 per cent on the NSE today at 12.07 pm.

Vi customers with compatible devices in these cities can now access 5G networks as part of the company’s introductory offer, which provides unlimited 5G data on plans starting from ₹299. The company has partnered with Samsung for network deployment in both cities, implementing energy-efficient infrastructure and vRan technology.

According to the press release, Vi has also deployed an AI-based Self-Organizing Network system to optimise network performance. Additionally, the company has enabled 5G services in 11 major cricket stadiums across the country to coincide with the ongoing T20 League.

The telecom provider plans to extend its 5G services to Delhi and Bangalore next month as part of its initial rollout phase. Vi states the expansion in these circles will continue in alignment with growth in 5G handset penetration and customer demand.

Vodafone Idea Ltd, a partnership between Aditya Birla Group and Vodafone Group, holds mid-band 5G spectrum in 17 circles and mmWave spectrum in 16 circles across India. The company is currently in the process of launching 5G services in 17 circles nationwide.
